Maria Elena is a soft sculpture art doll with Tibetan lamb hair and a needle sculpted face which is colored with prisma pencils and pastels.
She wears a white cotton peasant blouse with a machine and hand embroidered satin skirt. She uses a woven serape tied at the waist for her belt. Black leather slippers adorn her feet. The sequined velvet charro hat on her back is held in place by the chin strap. She holds a maraca in each hand.
I was inspired by the old cowboy song "El Paso" by Marty Robbins. "Out in the west Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl. Night time would find me in Rose's Cantina, music would play and Felina would whirl."
